The season of change.

Operation cozy living room; my mini DIY project.

Tis the season to get cosy tralalala la la la la.

It’s autumn, the trees are changing, the leaves are falling and the temperature is getting closer to absolutely freezing. What am I doing whilst this is happening; scrolling through Pinterest and imagining the cutest additions and changes to make our living room our sanctuary.

Honestly it happens every year, it’s either we move the furniture or we do a paint job. Therefore, operation warm and cozy living room is in order. One thing I was sure on was the colour scheme of warm greens with a terracotta / cream with wooden accents.

You might say oh that’s nice and oh that’ll be a cute little project, yes you are right ; but try doing it with a new born, one 4 year and and a very sassy 7 year old. It is tricky to say the least.

After careful and maybe impulsive decision making, emphasis will be put on our fireplace, which as you can image is our best friend this season, so that girl has got to be fire. Pun intended.

Here are the steps I took :

Deciding what paint colour to pick was somewhat easy with the help of my sister, a fellow artist. She ordered Lick sample pieces ( 3 ). If you don’t know Lick you better, they have fab sticky pages that can be put on the walls instead of paint, which is pretty genius and saves the mess that could happen with testing. Plus it allows you to test what the colour will look like on different walls/ lighting. We chose the warm green 18 sample and headed to b&q which didn’t have the exact colour but we colour matched as best as we could and bought a 25L container to guarantee good coverage over the light walls we have currently.

Before we even started painting I pulled all the nails out and filled them with polyfiller that drys white, and then sanded down after a day for a smooth finish.

Luckily in B&Q they sell a set of painting things which include 2 brushes in 2 sizes, 2 roller heads a tray a plastic cover and even tape. I taped the edges as I needed to but sadly we had a little blunder while taking it off when the paint dried. I assume it may have been because of some dust or dirt which didn’t let the paint sit on the surface.(how annoying)! There are a few bits to clean up but overall it is looking amazing! We may even end up extending the colour to other walls.

I also bought a carpet and pillow cases from Amazon that have some of the colours we already have in the room. This should hopefully bring some harmony to the eclectic decor we have.

We are even thinking about new floor lamp and a chandelier but let’s see how it goes with the budget.

It’s  not a massive investment in terms of a DIY project but it is a perfect way/start to get the place feeling more like home to us !

Let me know your  thoughts.
